Ok, from now on the planetary EPs that are sold by a certain company will no longer be discussed here, unless the names are disguised in the following manner.
MiniB (Body Odor) /MobyB (Terrible Mean Bodyoder) Planetary EPs. You are not to use the real names as they are not allowed on line in forums according to MiniB(Body Odor). 8)
Please refrain from using their real names of initials or I will be forced to delete the post. smile

Huh?

Edit -

On reading the Chinese Optics Importers thread, I think I've found the problem.

Bill and Thomas are having a problem with a supplier not honoring an exclusive contract, and the Planetary eyepieces are being sold out the back door. Dealers outside of the US are offering the back door copies with the designers name as part of the promotion.

Bill and Thomas were probably advised to put every dealer and forum they can find on notice to protect their trademark rights.

This whole affair is very distasteful and foolishly handled by Body Odor. It seems the best thing to do is to communicate to the amateur astronomic community, that has been loyal and supportive to them, how to identify the back door eyepieces and then go after the manufacturer. Interfering with freedom of speech in a public forum is wrong and a real turn off to many former customers. Sorry to beat a dead horse but I just read all the posts. Pardon me while I remove the offending initials from my profile.

Body Odor, in this case, is full of Male Bovine Excrement (if indeed he has asked anyone to refrain from using his name in discussions - we've only heard second hand reports).

A trademark is just that. It does not magically bestow copyright onto the owner of the trademark and its reach does not extend to mere mortals discussing a subject without selling anything, and it certainly doesn't prevent people from using the name for critical examination and discussion or even parodies (not even copyright does).

A *logo* does have copyright protection, though you can still make a parody (but the parody should better be clear).

Does this forum software have a word filter? On some other fora, you could arrange for a certain letter combination to be translated to Body Odour automagically wink.
