Well there goes the rest of my 401K that I didn't loose in the market. At least you don't need the $25.00 2" extender.

While I'm sure it's a wonderful EP, I won't be getting it. $750 is just insane. I'll stick with my 16mm type 5 that I got used for $225. There are a lot of good scopes you can get for $750.

Considering the prices people are willing to pay for Zeiss Abbe Orthos it does not sound unreasonable for what you are getting. Like everything else, for those with the means there are things available that the rest of us can only dream about.

FYI the $750.00 is from the High Point website.

Buy the 17mm and the 22mm t-4 Naglers for $880 and you cover a larger power range for viewing. This is for new prices. You might be able to get the 17mm, 22mm, and a 35mm Panoptic used for under $1000 and any two for the $750.
I like the Ethos, they look great and are excellent optically, but the 17mm for more than the 31mm Nager seems a bit too high for my taste.

I'm sure they are excellent eyepieces, but $750 for an eyepiece is simply ludicrous... (get 2-3 used Naglers for that price, and you'll be happy, guaranteed) 8)

No doubt they are an expensive eyepiece and I certainly am not buying one, I am quite happy with the oldies I currently have.

But I have to say that as a group we are a bunch of spendthrifts... These days folks with off-shore fishing boats may spend $750 or more just on the weekend's fuel and then there are all those other fixed costs like slip rental etc, etc.

Or the sand dune folks... $10,000 on up to $50,000 or more just for one of the buggies and families can have 4 or more...

Here we are whining about an amazing eyepiece that with proper care will remain perfect for several lifetimes, it doesn't wear out, it doesn't use fuel, it doesn't have slip rental... it's only $750... I think I talked myself into it...

Look on the bright side...the Ethos will likely hold its value better than your 401K investments. LOL.

Wow, what a thread!
First of all, I think Uncle Al put more consideration into
cost of manufacturing and R&D than "what the market will bear".
I own both the 13mm and 8mm Ethos and absolutely love them.
Personally though, I am more inclined to go for the new 6mm than the 17mm.
I think the 100 degree FOV is more beneficial in the higher power range.
My 31mm, 26mm, and 20mm T5's need not worry about being replaced.
The 17mm and 12mm T4's are not seeing much action though, and may be getting nervous. wink

On a final note this morning, Tuesday 9/30, I went to Starbucks to get some beans. And I noticed that they are selling Starbucks water named Ethos.
