H-alpha filter for wide-field CCD imaging

Hi all,

I am trying to track down an H-alpha filter to fir onto a Tamron telephoto lens for CCD imaging of nebulae from a VERY light-polluted area.

The Tamron has a 62mm thread. Talking with the people at ATWB, they know of nothing that will fit such a size. Does anyone here know where one might be found?

It is not possible to use a filter in the filter wheel as the CCD will not focus with the filter wheel in place. (A BIG boo-boo on the part of SBIG IMHO)

Has anyone else tried wide-field CCD imaging?

Cheers,

Maurice

The cheapest thing to do is to do what I did. I bought an extra new plastic rear lens cap for my Canon 70-200 IS lens. I then drilled a 1.25" hole in it with a hole saw. Then I bought an extra 1.25" nose piece for my CCD camera and epoxied it to the extra rear lens cap. Then all you have to do is screw on your 1.25" H-Alpha filter to the glued on nose piece and put your camera on it.

I believe Lumicon makes a 72mm. Just get a camera step down ring and you should be set.
