Okay, read the whole thing. Now, let's see.....
First of all I just love how the feminist movement is responsible for the breakdown of the family and homosexuality, and that women seeking a greater role in society must necessarily be power-hungry, gender confused, and emasculating antagonists of men. Further that problems between the sexes are due to the “Original Sin” and we all know whose fault that was, don’t we! I also particularly liked how the reason God created a helpmate for Adam was so that he “does not sink into a sterile, and in the end, baneful encounter with himself.” Oh my! Well, we couldn’t have Adam going blind now could we.
There is quite a bit of verbiage about active collaboration between the sexes, common humanity, partnership, and the importance of feminine values and that’s all fine, until we get to the “principal elements of the biblical vision of the human person. Parallels are drawn between the relationships of men and women and the relationship between Christ and his “beloved bride” the Church. Apparently women have but one role in this view, to be “witnesses for all Christians of how the Bride is to respond in love to the love of the Bridegroom”. Scriptures are even pulled from Revelations, where Jerusalem is “prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” In other words - women, prepared to be screwed. :S
I could pick this apart further, but it would take too long so I’ll spare you. In a nutshell, the Vatican seems to be saying that men are from Mars, women are from Venus, but Mars needs women, so come on out a fulfill those womanly duties.
By the time I reached the end of this didactic and often obtuse document, I felt very much like I was back in the 60’s, being patted on the head by my Dad and told to be a good girl and go play with my dolls.
2000 years of wisdom? Sounds like a bunch of old men who fear for their own power and status to me. Oh, it IS a bunch of old men clinging to power and status? Ah, I see.
Nice try.
