Refreshing and original idea.

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI told African bishops Friday that abstinence is the only "fail-safe" way to prevent the spread of HIV, reiterating the Roman Catholic Church's teaching to the prelates from a continent ravaged by the virus.

There's nothing like freshing originality and aptness of thought is there!

That might have been new idea in 900AD. Sure as hell didn't work then, doubt if it will work now, but when in doubt try repeating everything we've done before. What ignorance!

Hi Darrell,

Without wishing to comment on what the pope said, not having read his comments, I am curious. What is it about a church leader recommending to his parishoners that they life a life of morality, that they refrain from sex before marriage, that they do not have extra-marital affairs, all of which are proscribed in the book that the pope claims to follow, that you object to? After all, you cannot get HIV if you do not do any of these things. Or do you consider it fine and proper to have extra-marital affairs, etc?

Regards,

Maurice
