last month i paid $12 to join astromart's forum,
but deeply regret it:
most forum updates are on the subject of religion !

to those that answered my brief question in the beginner's section,
i am deeply thankful,
but it is obvious that,
aside from being free,
cloudy nights' quality and quantity of discussions
is light years ahead.

ps.
i dont mean to be disrespectful,
but i always thought that observing the heavens,
would sooner or later trigger some curiosity about physics or geology (perhaps biology?),
even to those with no former background in either,
but to my surprise,
one finds biblical "astronomers" in here.
oh well,
then again,
newton loved his bible...

If you want to see posts in the observing forums, make some there. What did you think we'd be talking about here? Pinochle? LOL!

The quality of the technical discussion here, in the technical forums, absolutely blows away CN.

At least for advanced amateurs. Quantity? Well, CN has us there...

Your $12 also gains you access to the classifieds, and IMO CN's can't touch. I have yet to have a bad transaction here. If a scammer does happen to get in, he is quickly exposed, and his account is yanked immediately. Astromart is THE safest place to buy and sell astro equipment, period. If your interest in this hobby continues, this is a resource you definitely won't want to do without (HUGE money saver). Another good thing about this site is that all members are required to use their real names. I think this cuts down drastically on dishonesty. So anyway, give it a little more time. This site will grow on you and arguing on this forum is pretty fun as well. Feel free to join in.

It's summer, the nights are very short, and observing for the east and south has been for the most of the season lousy. The other forums will pick back up once people start getting out again.

Newton had to appear to love his Bible to be a member of the Royal Society.
