You're flat wrong. If it says 35p.s.i. cold MAX, it means MAX. Not a "range". Tires heating up will increase that pressure and that is built into that MAX rating.
We don't need a president stating the obvious like he is some kind of genius, and have people (yeah, those that believe it) to "ooh, and ahh" over it. BHO is not an expert mechanic and people aren't going to listen to something so rhetorical and condescending.
But I agree, people that believe it do scare me.
Tapping into our OWN resources is a must if we're to wean ourselves off of the desert oil. The "wilderness" isn't going to get spoiled by any stretch of the imagination. There are so many environmental procedures that it just isn't going to cause any real problems. Once that oil is tapped, and used up, Mother Nature will take over. Those who do drill must be compelled to clean up after themselves . <-Period) We have the best technology in the world, and the cleanest record of all so why is it that people don't want the "experts" to do it, but gladly let China, Russia, and others with less than acceptable environmental records suck it all out of the ground and leave us high and dry?
Heck, the Canadians do it all the time with NO problems whatsoever. Are they better than us? Or are we (you) just too much of a bunch of scaredy cats to do it? Remember the Exxon Valdez? It was oil from the desert that got spilled, not oil pumped from Alaska. Shipping oil is MUCH more hazardous, and much more detrimental to the environment than drilling on LAND and pipelining it. You'd think people like you would relish using the MUCH SAFER and CLEANER way to get our own oil? Just think of how much oil is sucked down by those tankers' engines, and the pollution spewed out of them, just so you can tout how you cripple America, but "saved a tree". The trees will grow back! It's not like there will be oil wells covering the landscape, or for for hundreds of years. Not that many are needed. It's only for a few short years until we rise up again and become advanced enough to not need but less than a quarter of what we use today. The wells will be dismantled, people will actually have jobs to dismantle them (and to build them to start with), and the polar bears will once again be eating out of people's garbage cans, and the land will return to it's natural state. It will create JOBS that are sorely needed TODAY. After all, isn't that what we really need to do? Create a better tomorrow? I don't know about you, but I'd rather sacrifice a wilderness area *Temporarily*, than sacrifice my country's well being permanently.

Most people realize that tire preasure is a range and not a specific value. That range usually is plus or minus a couple of pounds. I doubt anyone ever thought that we could resolve our energy problems by this proposal. The point that the president was trying to make, which went right over the top of many heads, was that something as simple as proper inflation of tires and a regular tune-up would save about the same amount of energy as could be produced by tapping into one more of our unscathed natural wilderness areas. I think that the people who look at these comments and take them as literal solutions are the kind of people that scare me, and unfortunately there are a lot of people who get lost in the minutia. Pardon the spelling, the spell checker is not working.
