What's the real reason we went to war in Iraq?

We have oil men. Iraq has a lot of oil. Bush has an interest in keeping the US on the oil teat. By controlling Iraq they control that oil. In the face of much growing world demand for that oil, we're now in the thick of it. They have set up a fort, now they can start buying the place with beads.

Simple answer.

It's the oil. Anyone who can overlook this is just too naive to be living anywhere but in a fairy dreamland.

I don't believe it's for personal gain as Michael Moore and some posters here suspect. I don't think that Bush is quite THAT evil. The fact is our nation is becoming less and less capable of producing its own oil. Our demand is soaring and our production is declining.

World production is on the verge of peaking just as ours did decades ago, when that happens $55 oil will look cheap and the real 'oil wars' will begin. The invasion and occupation of Iraq is all about getting positioned.

What's the real reason we went to war in Iraq?-DF

Oil, Israel, and to intimidate the Arab/Moslem world in general.

Oil- to try to ensure that we'd have some say in its production and world market pricing.

Israel- we're covering their back. The distraction of our presence will turn the attention of anti-Israel groups in Syria, The Lebanon, Jordan, etc., away from them and towards Iraq.

Intimidation- of Iran, the aforementioned, and others...

One can also argue that our presence there is both a bolster to the Saudi Royals who play their own game, and a threatening reminder that we're capable of striking them if they stray too far afield.

What we have here ladies and gentlemen are ten relatively smart responses (I'm including myself in this poll and you can't be in this hobby and not be smart. The dim and dull just don't get it guys) that feel the reason for going into Iraq is for OIL!!!

That's a 100% response to the poll.

Do you believe it OIL!! Not WMD, not the poor Kurds, not because of the dictatorial Saddam, not because of any treaty violations, but OIL!

WAKE UP EVERYBODY. Over 1100 of the best and finest have been killed for OIL! Did it make that gallon of gas any cheaper? Not no, but HELL NO!

Isn't it a brave new world. Lives for OIL! How sad it is!
