Truss Tube Covering

Truss tubes I've seen have either been painted black or have the gray foam pipe insulation as covers. Has anyone used black PVC heat shrink wrap? It is more expensive. Any other advantage to the foam wrap rather than heat shrink?

Thanks for sharing your insight.

[COLOR="Purple"]I did heat shrink and I like it...poles not as bulky as with foam. Has held up well for 3+ years now.

Heat shrink is great, the Starmaster scopes use this. I find the pipe insulation to be just too bulky myself, but it is cheap and works well.
I have a bunch of Heat Shrink for tubes that I have not used yet, but will eventually. But right now the Starmaster already has it and the Astrosky has anodized tubes. smile
I have painted with some success, but virtually all paints can chip or peel. There are some things like truck bed paint that holds up pretty well, but it is textured and can make it hard to put on the light shroud.
