Folded Refractor

There's not a whole lot of info to be found about this type of scope for those who'd like to build one, so... I'd like to share a few pics of a folded refractor I just put together.
It's a 100mm f/13 Carton objective. Two - 1/20th wave mirrors redirect the lightpath out the side of the tube newt style. In a sonotube for now til I come up with a better tube. It was a fun project - went together almost too quick. Planning took way longer than actual build time.
Initial tests look very promising.
C'mon skies - clear up...

Its VERY interesting that you show this because I am building a pipe-GEM mount from "All About Telescopes" and I keep seeing this design and wondering if it would be worthwhile.

Let me know how it works out!

Nicely executed work. If you think a double fold requires preplanning and accurate alignment...........here is a clever triple fold constructed by Dave Bevel inspired by an original article on this design in S&T.

Nicely executed.

I built two folded refractors several years ago. The first one had an excellent 5" f15 doublet objective. I cheated somewhat and had just one fold in the ota. You could either look down the focuser or use a regular refractor diagonal to redirect the light to a 90 degree angle from the scope.

Just a quick update for those interested...
Got it all painted - hammertone and white. Made rings and a dovetail. Car door edge trim on the ends of the tube. Added a budget finder. Looks more like a real scope now rather than a construction project. 8)
