R.E. Brandt Optics

I am posting this as a favor to the elder statesman of our astronomy club (I believe he is 89) who is hoping to find good homes for some early-1980's R.E. Brandt telescopes that he acquired from the estate of a friend here in Northern Arizona. I believe there are two folded achromats, one 6" and one 10" both around f/16, and two Maksutov's, one 6" and one 8". The 10" achro probably needs an observatory while the rest would be portable.

If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be, please private message me and I will put you in touch with him. This is one of those cases where finding the right home for these optics might be more important than getting their full value. They really should be out capturing photons.

Thanks,
Milt

I have contacted the seller of the scopes and am in line for the 6" f/16 folded refractor. I have said that I would buy it if I liked it. The objective is being sent out for a little work on the coatings. When it is returned and all is well, then I am invited to Sedona, AZ to stay and use the 6" & 10" scopes and make a decision on the purchasing of the scope.
Needless to say, I am excited at the prospect of owning a piece of history as well as a high quality optical scope. I was told that the scope is spectacular in it's resolution and that the color correction is very good. It is mounted in an old Gem with R.A drive on a pedestal mount. He said that the scope would really be great on a Fork Mount though, as the eyepiece is at the pivot point and does not move in position when observing. Bill said that it is an ideal sitting scope for use with an observing chair.
Oh, by the way, Mr. Brant also made a 9" AP APO folded refractor I am told, one of 3 that were ever made. Roland made one as I understand.
Hopefully it will be ready this year sometime. grin
Oh, by the way, the 10" is still available! It is on a professional observatory class mount. It is folded as well and it said to be a great scope.

As an aside, I see that someone has a 12" lens cell by Brandt for sale/auction on that popular site.
