TMB 130-FT f/7
APM 130 f/6
TEC 140 f/7

What are your opinions on these for AP work, which would you say was the better?

Floyd,

Aperture rules with this fine selection of notable glass.

The TEC140 is on my bucket list. I obviously don't have it yet since it is on my list.

Hope to soon, though.

Assuming good optics on all three, seems like the field flattener and focuser would determine which is better for narrowband AP.

Floyd:

I think you are going to get a variety of opinions. Your safest best is to buy one of each, test them, pick the one you like and then give the others to your friends...

Hint, Hint.

Floyd, I think I would go with the TMB, I have seen more astro forum post with pic's from the TMB130 than any of the others on your list, it seem like a sweet spot and with the FT it comes ready to rock n roll plus its very easy to mount were the TEC140 needs more BEEF underneath it for AP. I would also take a look at the Astro Tech AT130EDF but there's no FT on that puppy, you might wanna upgrade the focuser for AP but the TMB has a good track record.

Dealing with optics of this caliber, it's impossible to give Yuri a 10mm advantage and expect to win.
The TEC140 has a dedicated FF available at a reasonable cost as well. And should you ever have a problem, the guy who made it is easily reached.

Hi Floyd:

I'm not surprised that no one has jumped in and said "I've tried all 3 and like x better than y for these reasons..." Who but a committed equipment junkie would have the time and money to try all three of these telescopes which are similar in size and quality? I am confident that any differences you see between published images from scope x versus scope y in this group are going to be more the result of the photographer's skill and local seeing conditions than optical differences.

Your MI250 will support any of these with stability to spare. I've had no problems with my TEC on a G-11 or a Mach 1, So I think you'll be in great shape if you decide to up-size a bit.
