Balancing a 6” F/12 tube

My group (www.kopernik.org) recently installed in our observatory an Astro-Physics 6-in F/12 on a Losmandy G-11. We would like an ‘easy’ solution to tube balance when changing eyepieces, bino-viewer, cameras, solar h-alpha filter, etc. We are considering purchase of a gizmo from Ken’s rings that would have two rings, bars, and sliding weights. However I’m wondering if anyone has another commercially available idea. BTW, by ‘easy’ solution I mean something that can be used by a teacher working with kids, not an experienced amateur astronomer – moving the tube in the mount would be too difficult for some of these users.

I use a sliding pouch that is filled with lead. It is held with velcro and slides up and down the tube all the way from the ring to the dew shield.
I have made them up to 4 lb so far. I do sell these to people, but it would be something that you could have made locally too. If you want a picture I could supply one.

I am in the process of doing the same thing, 6" f12 AP on G-11. I haven't achieved 100% satisfaction but I'm getting closer. I am using a Robin Casady 14" dovetail saddle plate and a 23.75" dovetail plate, both the biggest one's I can find w/o going custom made. I also use a TV 1-1/4" to 2" bronze adapter when viewing. I am condsidering using a TV Ranger as a finder to bring more weight to the focuser end of things so the tube will be more centered on the scope. Hope this helps.

I will just add I used the Kens setup on a 6" F15
and was extremely happy with it. Looks nice, too.
