Greetings from Virginia,

GBO is under construction. The exterior is complete, but the interior still has a ways to go. I'm very pleased with the HD-10 from Technical Innovations. I'll gladly share my experiences and insight gained on this project with anyone contemplating a similar observatory.

Very nice! What size telescope are you planning for your observatory?

Congrats Bob! That's a very unique design for an observatory.

Exactly where are you located?

I finally gave in and orderd an HD-10 as well. I should take delivery on 23 April. I am going to be placing mine on short 4' octagonal walls. Any suggestions? Did you use flashing material?

Your view is very nice but I'd cut the trees down

Beautiful! I'm considering a somewhat similar set-up built into the roof of an aircraft hangar. This requires an even taller pier than yours, about 20 ft tall. How did you spec your pier? What kind of foundation? Are you worried it might start to lean? How did you attach your mount to the pier?

Bob,

Thanks for the info. Did you ever consider an all-steel pipe pier? What made you go for a concrete pier? What did that pier with the engineering and all, roughly cost? Are there any good books on tall piers? So many questions, so little time!

Regards

Bob,
I would just like to say that your Observatory and site location is just absolutely beautiful. I noticed the pillar from ground level all the way up to our mount! I wish that I had your Observatory and that you had one better although I just cannot see how that could be possible.
Congratulations!!!
Respectfully,
