Greg,

I can provide a 7mm XW for comparison purposes.

Here is one oddity I've noticed with the Pentax eyepieces. If the Moon is just outside the field there is a pretty severe glow in the eyepiece. It seems to be eyepiece related, as I don't see it in other eyepieces and it is visible in a variety of telescopes.

Clear skies, Alan

Alan, thanks for noting this glare. I noted it in the 5mm XW and thought I was starting to think I was all alone. I believe this glare is from the several not-quite-knife-edge baffles.

As for Daniel Mounsey's comments, I consider him very perceptive, much moreso than myself as regards several aspects of planetary eyepiece performance. He often sees bigger differences than I do and possibly can see smaller differences than I CAN. So, philosophically, how do you react to a situation where you can't see a difference and somebody else can? My philosophy is to focus on my own satisfaction and let aficionados like Daniel tend to theirs.

So now I pay attention because maybe someone out there is "seeing" something I'm going to be "seeing" pretty soon too.

Yes, this is very common, but as the years have passed it happens to me less and less. There's also a big difference between being happy with your equipment because you don't know "how the other half lives" and being happy with your equipment because in fact you do.
