I was using my 14 UWA last night on my C9.25" and was stunned by how good it is. Sharp like I'd expect from an ortho.
Do the other old series UWAs compare, or is this the best of the bunch?
I also use a 80mm f/7 apo refractor.

THe others compare well, but the 14mm is very sharp and the 8.8 is also quite sharp. The 6.7mm and 4.7mm are not quite as good as the other two, but are also quite good. I had all four, but sold the 6.7mm and 4.7mm and purchased the 7mm and 5.2mm Pentax XL to take their place.

Wow, I actually get to post on this. Ok, I'm new and have the same scope as you. I listened to Ivan's comments to my posts on a question on EPs and what do you use most. So with suggestions, I bought a used Pentax 14mm XL and also a "BRAND NEW" (saying this because I'm probably going to sell/trade) 14mm Meade 4000 UW ep.

The Meade is in fact new, probably last on the shelf anywhere. Ok, I put it in my scope and went WoW. Then I put the Pentax in the scope and went "shoot", now what do I do with the Meade.

The Pentax XL and I'm assuming XW the same, has more contrast and is simply more comfortable to use to the eye. Quite frankly, I was not amused and now am on a quest for more Pentax's. Also, the Pentax was simply amazing in my friend's 8" Dob, which he wrote about earlier in this forum.

Which brings up another question I've been choking back; should I keep the Meade or get rid of it? I know it's kind of a collectors item, but maybe not worth keeping? This is really hard decision to make. Please chime in on this.

David,
I to have the 4k 14mm UWA which I use a f/4.5 it is surprisingly sharp towards the edge of the field. So to say the least, it is definitely a keeper. If I had to change one thing, it would be to paint some of the silver barrel with in the inside of the skirt. It seems to have slight internal reflection because of it. Mike Hossa (sp?) did this to his and said it darkened up the background of the star fields.

Clear skies,
Jay

PS......Ivan, that eyepiece was a lemon I squeezed into sweet lemonade grin
