Meade electric eyepiece

What is the deal with the Meade electric eyepieces you see on ebay? This may be better suited to another forum but I see all kinds of mods for webcams yet this eyepiece will do the same for about $40.00? Too good to be true or not the same thing?

Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.

Well,
I had one and found it to just about be useless for anything but the Moon. Other opinions may vary.
Please try to not use the other auction place name here as Herb does not care for it being promoted at his expense.
You should just word your question around the EP and not the source of it. The price factor is OK as long as you don't link that price to the other place. We are not here to promote what items are available on the other place.
I was forced to delete one post because of this and your post came close to crossing the line too, but i will leave it to show what I do not want to see on this forum.
Thanks.

I bought one about a year ago. I've mostly used it when the neighbors come over while I'm doing some moon observing, and a very limited amount of time using it on Satrun and Jupiter. I've tried DSOs, but the CMOS chip just doesn't have the sensitvity to pick up such small amounts of light. You would be better advised to get a Meade LPI for about $100 here on Astromart for the solar system stuff. There are a few DSO imagers out there for less than $500, so good luck and clear skies.

It is my understanding that the Meade electronic eyepiece is a video camera with NTSC video output, it hooks up to a monitor or your TV. To get the video into your computer you need some sort of "frame grabber" card as an interface.

A webcam interfaces directly with your computer, usually via USB, no interface car is needed.

So, they are not the same thing and if you want to interface with a computer, the webcam is the less expensive way to go in most cases.
