Meade 1.25" Eyepieces

I just got a 5mm Meade Plossl on Ebay, and it arrived in a box marked "for ETX-60AT and ETX-70AT telescopes." Is there some difference between this and other 1.25" Plossls? Meade says no, it's just because it's the 1.25" size. But geez why not put "For Meade ETX-90, Meade ETX-125, or even "Meade Reflector Telescopes?" Or any telescope? Why specifically ETX-60 and 70? Anybody have a clue in this?

Thanks,
Bob

If it is a Plossl then it was just included in a package with the ETX series and was so labled. Plossls are Plossls as this is a design.
If it is a MA EP then it still will work, but was more for the ETX f/l type scopes and not so much for fast f/l is my understanding. MA EPs have not performed well for me in fast Newtonians.

It is a 4 element plossl with a 50 degree field. It is not a 4000 series. It will work just fine in any 1 1/4 focuser.

Thanks guys. I just tried it out on the moon and it is very good. It equalled the sharpness and color correction in my Televue 11mm Plossl with Celestron FMC 2X barlow. Saturn, later tonight, will really tell the story. I'm hoping for a little more contrast, but that's hard to tell on the moon.

Hi Dan,

The first thing I noticd was the curvature of the eye lens. I figured it was just due to the short fl. I'll check the field curvature. Thanks for the tip.

Well I checked out the filed flatness and it ain't so great. But the color correction is good and there are minimal reflections so I'll call it a keeper. I do almost strictly planetary viewing and the center of the FOV is all I really care about. Saturn looks really crisp out to about 20% from the edge. Nice eyepiece for thge money, It was an Ebay deal, brand new, $16 shipped, with case. Not bad.
