I stand corrected

I stand corrected. I think that there is a lot of picking apart of the wording and not the intent going on in these past threads. Not sure why that so much is being made of it, but it has become clear to me that doing these reports is a big waste of my time and effort.
I for one will discontinue my EP reviews on this forum. I am becoming increasing tired of having to defend my every statement and having to try to get points across. It is really difficult to make everyone happy. It is also to much trouble to try to cover every possible scenario when these tests are performed. Plus the picking apart of every statement for meaning or implication is just too much!
So, I yeld to the experts and all of those that wish to take to exception to each oversight or mistake in comunication.
I have decided to let you guys do all the reviewing from now on and just keep my opinions to myself. After all, it is up to each person to make decisions and determinations concerning any purchase.
I stated before that I am not an expert. I am just a person that has an opinion. We all have one and I respect yours.
Please, feel free to purchase sets of any EP that you would like to review and use what ever type of scope that you see fit and post your opinions here. I will not try to impart any thing more than my duties as moderator.
Thanks
Floyd

Floyd I don't see why anyone would have a problem with your review. You clearly stated the conditions under which the eyepieces were reviewed. I don't recall you stating this was the definitive eyepiece test of all time either.

There are lots of fast Dobs out there being used without Paracors. It seems to me the results may be relative to those owners.

I no longer own a Newtonian, therefore I suspect my results may be a little different, but I have enough sense to realize that.

Clear skies, and keep the reviews coming.

Really, I think that there are those out there that are much more qualified to give their opinions than I.
Unfortunately I do not seem to quite have a handle on this it seems. I had hoped that my efforts would be good enough, but I feel that I was less than successful.
Truth is, the efforts required to defend your opinion is far more than it takes to form your opinion.
I will be glad to give my opinion to anyone in private message or email, but I am not comfortable about posting it for all to try and take apart my statements to find whatever fault that there might have been in them.
Those that have greater knowledge about this subject than myself are more than welcome to post their opinions and reports in great detail with all the details worked out to the finest degree of perfection. smile
But myself, I am far more interested in using the EPs than reviewing them. Plus I have no refractors or slow Newts to use in testing, so my data is limited in it's scope. (Pun) wink
Seriously, I am considering deleting the entire thread, that I started, and all the threads that were formed from it. It is all a big waste of space perhaps. If I do not delete it, then I now close it and all the threads that spawned from it.

Floyd (and friends),

I can totally see your frustration - it seems to me that there are poeple who claim they "know" what they are talking about (and they very well may be an expert - I'm not criticizing their knowledge in any way here) are very quick to correct or comment (usually in a less than positive fashion) on someone else's efforts to share an experience, observation, or review but are very reluctant to do the leg work and post a review themselves. That can make anyone want to keep their work to themselves. Share your knowledge, help others, but don't be so harsh in your efforts to add your .02 to the review after the fact.

There are those that have the common sense to read a review in its entirety, get a grip on the context and intent of the review, and appreciate one's effort that was spent to perform such a task.

There are dozens of us here that appreciate what Floyd and other contributers or reviews have to offer. We know that our views and experiences will be different - after all we all don't have the same identical telescope (no two mirrors are the same), with the exact same eyepiece (no two pieces of glass or their coatings are exactly the same), and the exact same viewing conditions and locations.

If you cease to post your reviews you'll be doing more harm than good in my opinion but, we'll still respect you just the same... you'll just get a lot more PM from all of us with questions smile

...Or you could just submit the review only in the review portion of AM and hit the button on any posts that talk about it here... lol wink Have some fun!

Just my opinion - feel free to jump all over me too - Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine - I can take it!

Floyd, I am with the majority here in both appreciating your review(s), and all the work you put into producing them.
And in urging you to leave the thread intact for the 99% of us who feel that way, and keep up the good work
(after a well deserved rest, perhaps wink ).
As far as Paracorr goes, I would have left that out of the optical chain too,
even though I leave mine on 95% of the time while observing.
As a result of your most recent review,I have been inspired to get my Pentax XL's back into use.
I have not been using them lately, as my EP case became too full of Naglers (damn the bad luck!).
You are not obligated to defend your opinions. Folks can take what they want from the reviews.
That said, discussion of opinions can be a good thing, too.

Don't let the "review reviewers" get you down! grin

Floyd, Your reviews were fair and useful to me.

I think we now know why Sky & Telescope rarely reviews eyepieces. Two years ago S&T gave a mixed review of the TMB Supermono, and, holy cow, the internet feedback was intense.

The review was subjective. So the Japanese magazine style quantitative testing (Roland) seems like a necessity for a magazine and would be great if that were done in the US too.

Floyd,
Don't give up. Don't quit. Don't become frustrated. I'll have no more of your talk like that! grin Seriously. As you recall from past posts, everytime I made a personal judgement about a certain brand, "some" people could just not handle the critising of their favorite EP. You know what...who cares. What do they know anyway? Too little as they are clouded by their preferences.

Anywho...why not just let us know who the people are who so frustrated you so we can give them our what for! This is afterall an open forum so let us know exactly who the cuplrits are. Remember...team work...no one is an island nor should they try to be. So please, happily post your thoughts on another set of EPs you decide to test, and if anyone gets overly critical, we'll pounce on them!

As far as these people being experts...well that's a bunch of #@*! The "experts" like everyone else, make just as many mistakes and bad judgements as the novices. In fact, they must be particularly careful as they often make incorrect assessments due to their lack of objectivity and overinflated egos. For instance, anyone who might have been overly concerned about edge performance in a planetary test is basically screwy. Sure, let's keep Jupiter at the edge of the field to view it...that makes perfect sense! Jeeez. I suppose those people also bend over the top of the bike to take the nut off the tire hub on the other side instead of just walking around the bike. Go figure. Actually, don't go figure cuz they have no common sense.

Anyway...just forget about them and keep your EP comparisons coming grin Next topic ok...
