Has anyone evaluated GSO eyepieces? Are any of the other commercially available eyepieces actually GSOs, such as Orion, Celestron, etc? Are they worth the trouble. I am viewing with a 12" Hardin Dob.

Most of the GSO EPs that I have viewed through were not that great. Lots of aberations were what I found.

I have the GSO Superview 42mm. Last weekend I tried it again in my 12.5 inch F4.06 operating with a Paracorr at F4.7.

It was "passable" but I did not find the views to be pleasing, a reasonable "finder eyepiece." Compared to my old TV 32mm Widefield, it isn't that hot.

A couple of things about the 42mm, whatever the AFOV is, the true field of view corresponds to a "nominal" Apparent Field of View of about 57degrees.

In an F5 scope, you are losing aperture with a 42mm eyepiece because the exit pupil is over 8mm. The 30mm would seem to make more sense in an F5 scope.
