I have many second hand eyepieces that could use a cleaning. I have TV but many other brands as well. Tho I have the proper materials, I'm a bit shy on cleaning them myself. Is there a reliable place to have these done?

Quite a few threads on this topic, you might search this forum and get some good info.

Personally I use the TeleVue technique...

If you remove the grit before cleaning, then the damage risk is minimal. The use of proper materials is important however. Either good surgical cotton or specialized cleaning tissue for eyepieces is the best for this. Cleaning solutions can be purchased or you can just use plain 91-99% alcohol (no additives just alcohol and water when you check the label) can do a good job. You must be careful to use only a small amount though, too much will run inside the lens which is not good.
Televue's method is a good one, there are many out there.
Most important though is to remove dust and grit before anything is applied to the lens. This is done with air from a bulb or the use of a Camel's hair brush can also be used, but air is better. If air does not remove it, then the brush is the next step.
As for sending them in for cleaning, well that can become expensive. Better to practice on a cheap EP until you are sure you get how to do it and then just do it yourself. smile

Mike at ITE Telescopes in Jupiter FL will professionaly clean an eyepiece. I sent him an old Brandon awhile back.
