Can't Focus 2" GSO 30mm Superview

I just purchased a 2" GSO 30mm Superview and my focuser does not have enough inward travel to bring objects into focus. I am using this on an 8" f/6 Sky-Watcher dob. I am using the rack and pinion focuser that came with the telescope. Is there anything I can do to correct this, short of purchasing a new focuser? Thanks in advance.

Hi Shane,
About all that would be possible without modification would be to RAISE the primary with the collimation screws. Otherwise it would be a new focuser, but then you might have problems with other EPs that need a lot of out focus.

Try Floyd's suggestion of changing collimation screws first. If that does not work, then you may be able to move the whole mirror cell forward a bit. Take a hard look at how the mirror cell is fastened to the tube or box. If it is just a question unscrewing a few screws, and re-drilling the holes a centimeter or so forward, then go for it. Make sure in doing so, though, that you still have clearance for the collimation screws/fan, or whatever else you have back behind the cell. This is always less expensive and sometimes easier than changing a focuser. (On the other hand, if you are thinking of upgrading the focuser anyway......)

PS.....Somebody check my logic here--Is it forward or back when there is not enough in-travel on a focuser--I always mess that up!!!
