OK - Here goes, I'm a newbie, been falling in love with the Mak Newt I got a couple weeks ago, but it dosent seem to have the aperature for the faint fuzzies - So I want to get a TT Dob, I have been lookin at the 14" TScope but I see here on AM that there is a 12.5 Starmaster with a CZ mirror, by the time I get a few extra's on the TScope I'll be in the ballpark of the $$ the guy wants for the Starmaster, is there going to be a big difference between the 2 Scope's? Should I go for the aperture or the legendary CZ? Or maybe get a Swayze 14" Tscope? (all these seem to be in the same dollar range) I wish I could take a look thru some of these but there just is'nt much star party activity goin on where I live...so I am going to rely on the collective wisdom of this forum.....

Louis,
I'd go for the extra aperture, although the difference between a 14" and 12.5" is not that great visually, but every little bit helps. I have a 16" Swayze and I'm very happy with it. Its a Midnightelescope made by Tom McGowan in Kingman, AZ. I looked through a guy's 16" Starmaster w/
CZ mirror last weekend and the difference visually was not noticable with my eyes. Good luck in your search.

I would go for the Swayze 14" if it were a choice between the scopes you listed. I have a Swayze 15" and in our club we only build with Swayze mirrors anymore because of price and quality. There would be a difference in every inch of aperture you get. The 15" would out perform the 14" and the 16" would out perform the 15"
We have a 16" Swayze for sale new in our club right now and it is really nice to view through. If I did not already have a 15" I would probably buy it!
Even the regular T-scope 14" would be very nice. His scopes are short and lightweight which is great.
Buy the most you can afford and you will not be sorry. The things you can see with a 14-16" scope are amazing compared to a 11-12" scope. Some objects just won't be visable in the 12" that will be very visable in the 14-15"
Just recently at Mt. Pinos we were looking at some distant galaxies and the guy next to me could not resolve or even see a smudge of the galaxies I was looking at in the 15" he was using an 11" SCT.

Hi Louis;

Got a chance to do some observing thru a 20" starmaster a year or so back. Shrouded, accurately collimated, and 2" t.v. all the way. The DSO were incredible! Enjoy your Tscope.
