When do I need to weight balance my Scope

I have an 8" Meade LX200 on the standard fork mount. I have the micro focuser and a Williams optics diagonal so at this point, with a modest plossl eyepiece, the scope is slightly tail heavy, but no problem with the motors so far. I recently bought a Meade Series 4000 14mm UWA, weighing in at 1.8lbs I believe. I have not used it yet but am concerned that it will be too much weight for the scope unless I buy a weight balancing kit. Does anyone have experience with this? Will the 8" LX200 fork mount handle that eyepiece weight without a balancing kit? I don't want to damage the scope but I would prefer not to pay for a set of weights at this point. Thanks for any help you can give.

I am able to use any EP in the NS8GPS including the 14 UWA without balance issues, but I do use a weight system anyway to take the load off the motors.

Alex, do you use any dew shield?
I particularly use my aluminum dew shield, which counteracts the heavy tail, and levels the scope... wink
