Hi all. Wan't to get a laser collimator for my 12,5" dob.
Do I need a 2" laser if I have a 2" focuser or would the slightly cheaper 1.25" version work just as well with an adaptor? I've been looking at models from Orion , Kendrick and EZtelescopes. Experiences? Does Orion have a 2" model?
Maybe you have some other reccomendations? Thanks. Mario.

Hi Mario
The big advantage of a 2" model over a 1.25" model is you eliminate any error that might come from the 1.25"/2" adapter. I think most believe that you should use the same size as the focuser. One word of caution about laser collimator's is that even new ones have to be checked for collimation so be sure what ever brand or model you get can me adjusted for collimation. I bought off Amart a 2" Kendrick with the 45* face with grid. When I got it I set it up in a V block and found that the collimation was way out which is probably why the seller sold it. After a bit of adjusting it works perfect and it has held collimation with no farther problems. I can recommend the Kendricks however I've never used any of the others.

Just to make it unanimous, get the 2". I have a 2" EZ Collimator with the 45 degree window, and am very satisfied with it. I had the 1.25" and exchanged it due to focuser slop.

I have heard some complaints about the guy charging credit cards before shipping, which may have been rectified by now. To be safe, if you are getting one, go through a dealer like Anacortes (they stock them).

I would recommend the 2" Kendrick. It is a great collimator. I have checked my scope with a set of Tectron Tools after collimating with the Kendrick and it was right on the money. The 2" is best because of the mentioned problem with the 1.25" adapter.
