Description

The wonderful NGC 2683, aging master of the unbarred (?) spirals. It's also one of the main attractions in Lynx, a constellation whose outlines are less than striking. At around 7.7 Mpc distant (variously reported as somewhat less than this), NGC 2683 is a fascinating study, hosting a large number of globular clusters, and stretching across about 9 arc-minutes of our sky at an apparent magnitude of 10.6. It's a beauty, and there are lots of images of it out there -- not bad for a galaxy that is both smaller and less luminous than the Milky Way.
