Skies at Naperville Astronomical Association Member Dark Sky Site were fantastic Sept. 3 overnight. My favorite deep sky object is the dumbbell nebula, messier 27. Only since owning my 14.5" Zambuto mirror Starmaster dobsonian have I seen such detail in the dust knots and lanes in this fantastic nebula. Published Hubble images show this in more detail, but this is beyond my expectations for a ground-based telescope. Rather than working to enhance the image to bring out the most brightness, instead, this image is nearly untouched coming from the camera. Only a mild degree several recursive minor curves (dark up)/levels (down) adjustments with minor noise reduction was done. This is a single 30 second exposure with Canon T3i at 12,800 iso. No cropping has been done: This is the field of view with this setup. A 2X 2" Barlow element is attached a few inches in front of the Canon T3i to bring focus out far enough to allow photography with this dobsonian + feathertouch focuser.
