Description
Sharpless 131 is the home of the “Elephants Trunk†in the constellation Cepheus at a distance of 2,400 light-years. This wide field image spanning about 4 degrees is very similar in appearance to the “Rosette†nebula. Both nebulae are star forming open clusters. SH-131 and the Rosette both span a distance of ~130 light-years.
