Description

August 22nd 2013, one day past full moon. Image captured with Canon T3i at prime focus to Vixen 102mm f9 fluorite apochromat refractor. Whole moon just fills the 18 megapixels. Original image was cropped in Photoshop to this section of the moon, then sheared to look as if viewing from orbit. Foreground left front is the edge of Mare Tranquillitatis. To the right of this and slightly toward center is Sinus Amoris. Right center is Mare Fecunditatis. Mare Crisium is top/back just left of center. In Mare Crisium from left to right are craters Pierce F, Swift (11km), Pierce (19km), Yerkes (filled in), Picard (23km), and Greaves (14km). Crater Langrenus is at right center, and crater Cleomedes is just to the left of Mare Crisium. Original color left in image, with moon only 20-deg above horizon, has reddish/yellow/brown hue.
