Believe it or not asteroids along with airplanes and satellites are flying over our heads every minute of every day. We just don’t pay much attention to them until they accidentally land on top of our houses! Seeing these objects are pretty much a nightly occurrence when you’re imaging the sky. These are actually noise sources for the imager that have to be cleaned up in order to produce a good looking image. This first animation is an asteroid that I caught last night. The angular distance from edge to edge of this animation is about 4/10ths of a degree which in practical terms is the sky obstructed by a pencil width at arm’s length. (Your little finger at arm’s length obscures 1 degree). This animation encompasses a time frame of five hours (30 frames @ 10 minutes each).
