Description
Image and Spectrum. 80mm triplet APO objective on scope used with 300 lines per mm blazed grating spectrograph. Losmandy GM-8 mount free-tracking. Canon Digital Rebel with IR cut filter removed, set to f2.8, 1600iso, 30 second exposures. Final spectrum is stack of 3 exposures in Photoshop, subtracting skyglow background as well. Spectrum analyzed with RSpec to calibrate and assign peaks, and synthesize final spectral display at the bottom of this picture. Unlike star spectra, this nebula produces line emission spectra via relaxation of excited atoms back to lower energy levels. Noted are hydrogen alpha and beta, and oxygen III lines. The RSpec analyzed spectrum also shows additional element lines in between these.
