NGC1232 from my observatory in Atoka, OK on Oct-Nov 2011 through Astro-Tech AT-130mm refractor using QSI583 WSG and AstroDon Gen 2, I series LRGB Filters. Copyright 2011 Max Corneau This is a wonderful, but challenging Grand Design face-on spiral galaxy of the type SC, with a deep set of tendril-like spiral arms unwinding from a very conspicuous central bar. The full size image must be seen to appreciate the detail (click on the image anywhere to zoom there). Despite its diminutive size in the field of view that contains countless background galaxies of unknown distance, NGC 1232 is a very large spiral galaxy with twice the diameter (200 000 light-years) of our Milky Way. This galaxy is found in the Constellation: Eridanus and is generally agreed to be at a Distance of 70 million light-years and a Visual magnitude of 10.6.
