Made in late November, 2006, near Lago Vista, TX, using a Pentax istDS DSLR and a vintage 70/220mm Soligor manual zoom lens. This image was made right at sunset at a distance of about 100 feet. Settings were 1/250th second, F4, ISO 800. This was hand-held as Id just set up my tripod when they started to bang heads and I didnt want to miss the action. I rested the lens on a railing for this shot. I had the camera on autoexposure mode since I was concentrating on focus and action. There is a third deer just visible in the background brush. He was older than these two. When they bounded into the brush to confront him (they were trying to impress a doe off camera at left), he charged and these two went flying off in different directions. This image is half the original resolution.
