Description

I managed to capture Jupiters Moon Io transiting the Disk of Jupiter last night. The two images (left 10:27pm, right 11:23pm eastern) above were taken about an hour apart and show just how quickly jupiter rotates (just under 10 hours) and Io orbits. Seeing was pretty good initially, but then some clouds moved in, seeing degraded, and I was lucky to capture the beginning of the transit. This was my second effort at imaging Jupiter and I went with my 4x powermate to get an image scale of 0.24 arc-seconds per pixel (pretty silly for a 140mm aperture, but ... it works!) Image Capture and Processing details: TEC 140 telescope on an AP 900GTO mount. Televue 2 4x Powermate yielding a 3920mm fl @ f/28 Imaging Source DMK 31AF03.as Firewire WebCam. Tiffen Yellow 12 filter. Gain 660, exposure 1/30sec. 500 of 1000 frames stacked in RegiStax. Minor wavelet sharpening (first wavelet only) RLD 5x5 Gaussian for 5 iterations in Images Plus. Three-layer HighPass Filtering in PhotoShop.
