This heiau (altar) resides at the true summit of Mauna Kea. The geological benchmark can be seen to the right of the structure. In the background, several of the large institutional scopes can be seen. The summit is separated from the developed portion of the peak by a small ravine. It is a short (5-10 minute walk) from the blacktop to the summit, but at 13,000+ feet, it still gets the heart going. Taken with a Sony DSC-H1.
