Description
Cloudy conditions kept me from getting the photos I really wanted, but the sky cleared here in southern Ohio just before Atlas and Pleione in the Pleiades cluster set behind the dark side of the moon. Here is Atlas just before it set. The exposure is 1/5 second at 1600 iso with a Canon Digital Rebel at prime focus. The scope is a 127mm diameter F/7 APO. The image is overexposed for the illuminated side of the moon to show the earthshine on the dark side, and to see the Pleiad stars better. The haze around the crescent moon is light scattering from the atmosphere as the sky was still hazy.
