This eagle was perched in the top of a fir tree on Fir Island, WA when I first spotted it. It was the first bird of the day and my cameras were still packed. I slipped out of my truck on the opposite side from the eagle and got out my 800mm f5.6 lens and Nikon D100. At this point I realized I had forgotten my bean bag rest which I use on top of the truck so I stepped onto the running board and nestled the lens in the palm of my hand on the roof. I managed about 8 photos before the eagle took to the air and this is my favorite. Exposure data is; ISO 200, WB cloudy -3, 1/1000 sec, f5.6, JPEG Large Fine. This image has been cropped.
