Description

This will be my last update to this Mars cycle image. It began after seeing some fantastic images from Gabe Cardona of the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas. The early images were painful; I would wake at 3-4 am to aquire the avi files and then struggle to stay awake for the remainder of the day. Astronomers and the public were treated to a more favorable opposition in 2005 than 2003. Here in Dallas TX, the 2003 opposition was lower in elevation and atmospheric dispersion affected image quality. 2005s opposition was very high in elevation. High elevation of the planet, imaging as the planet crossed the meridian, and the opposition itself made for good images. Ive very thankful to have had the chance to image Mars in 2005 and I wish to thank my wife Jackie for purchasing the webcam and barlow that allowed me to make this happen. I also would like to thank Jeff Barton for his help with Registax processing. I learned much about using this program in 2005. I have much more to learn though, so the fun is just starting. Lastly, Id like to thank the Three Rivers Foundation (www.3rf.org) for the generous use of a EM-200 mount that I used for the Nov. 3 and Nov. 8 images. Vance Bagwell
