Description

Thanks to idyllic aegean skies, todays solar eclipse was another reminder of the dynamic nature of the heavens above us and a tremendous prelude to next springs total eclipse whose path of totality includes the Greek isle of Kastelorizo. Our two closest celestial neighbours put on another tremendous show in just under three hours where the goddess Selene passed in front of the Sun. In spite of the approximately 65% coverage at eclipse maximum, a noticeable difference in the ambient lighting, particularly that involving reflection from tiles on the ground, was noticeable. The greatest challenge proved to be the some anxious moments before the start of the eclipse when attempting to reach focus as perfectly as possible and in the absence of any sunspots. Exposures every five minutes were taken from start to finish. Every third such exposure was then used to construct the mosaic depicted above.
