This morning I was driving on a road in Everglades National Park in the direction of Flamingo looking for a red shouldered hawk that was in the area. I was looking in the tops of the trees and noticed a texture reminiscent of the striped tail of the hawk. To my surprise it turned out to be this youngster raccoon with a striped tail. When he saw me stop my vehicle, he began to descend his perch and thought about it, pausing in the upside down position shown here. This photo has been rotated 90 degrees CW, so as not to make you dizzy as it almost did me taking this picture through the open sunroof of my truck with fifteen pounds of lens and camera in hand.
