Check those eye slits. This is a first for me. Luckily I caught this (eastern Screech Owl - red morph) while looking for another bird. Needless to say I was delighted to spend about 30 minutes with this fellow. Owls are rare to find, at least in my experience. At first I thought he was sleeping until I changed my position about 30 degrees from him and thought his head/face followed me, I took a double take and sure enough this guy was very aware of me. I took about forty pictures until I got one focused enough for me. At one point some children and parents were walking down an adjacent path and my heart sunk fearing they would scare the little guy, but as luck would have they turned back.
