These two images drastically show the difference of what can be seen when there isnt any light pollution. On the the night of August 20, 2003 when the power blackout affected millions across the North American east coast, plunging them into darkness. From my house (where I used to live) I took an image of the southern Milky Way overtop of my neighbours house. This direction faces directly into the glow of Toronto, Ontario and normally there is hardly any stars visible. The following night, after the power was restored and the sky was back to its normal, light-polltued self, I took another image to use as a comparison. The difference is quite stunning! Blackout image: 90 seconds, unguided, 28mm, f2.8, ISO 800. Following night: 30 seconds, 28mm, f2.8, ISO 800. Taken in Goodwood, Ontario. Todd Carlson 100 Berriedale Road Burks Falls, Ontario P0A 1C0
