I am sad to inform you of the passing of a dear friend, Daniel Verschatse in Chile yesterday.
Daniel was a major force in Chilean amateur astronomy, and one of the world's best astrophotographers. He was one of the most kind and generous people I have ever known, a true Renaissance man. He promoted amateur astronomy not only in Chile but thruout the world and was a well known figure at some of the largest professional observatories in the Chilean Andes. His retirement project was to set up an astronomy retreat, The Hacienda de Los Andes, where amateurs from Chile and around the world were invited to use the telescope equipment for visual observing and astrophotography.
