"NAKED EYE" SUNSPOT(S)

Posted By Charles Stevenson

Yeah, I have a piece of welder's glass that I was given in Africa in 2001 to look at the eclipse. Never thought to use that to preview before dragging out the whole scope and white light filter. Hoping to be able to afford an Ha scope someday. I guess one could also look at space weather or one of those NASA sun video feeds.

My first pier

Posted By Charles Stevenson

Here's a few photos of the aluminum pier. I removed the red and white striped fire alarm paint and at the wife's suggestion used some nice Rustoleum (had it on hand) paint called Hammered Steel or something to that effect. It's a nice greyblack paint that's not too shiny but not too flat. Will see how it works in the dark soon. :-)

Here's a closeup and the next post will be the full length.

Note the use of the wife's 3lb hand weights and the flywheel of a small engine to try and add enough weight. ;-) I had previously knocked the teeth out of the flywheel (purposefully) since it sometimes sits at the back of the OTA to balance out my Televue 9mm when the 10" is used as a dob.

My first pier

First light with the pier earlier this week. Seems quite sturdy. I might fill the pier with sand for further vibration dampening.
