Grinding mirrors

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

Part of the ATM experience is making your own mirrors.

I have 3 polishing machines..all of different designs and ability.

Here is a picture of several sized being run. First my 17" on the Porter polisher..a students 8" and I'm making a 12.5" for a CN friend. the latter 2 are being polished on amy 4 spindle machine..that can polished 4 different sizes at the same time with different strokes and speeds. it's a slick machine for sure. Fun fun fun mirror making here.

On my website www.goldmtobservingcenter.com there is a video link to some polishing of the 12.5.

Stress testing mirrors

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

It is widely known to use polarized light to check mirror blanks annealing and look for stress in them.

When checking for stress in a friends mirror I'm making for him...I noticed the strangest patterns in the glass...nothing I've seen before.

Almost looks as if the glass cooled on a waffle sheet. It has been suggested this is *tempered* glass...and to my knowledge will be a bear if not impossible to figure. Do any of the *experts* here have a clue to what these unusual stress marks mean or are?

Thanks

Rob

The recession is over!

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

Newsweek declares the Recession is over....LOL :S

Because the unemplyment level has leveled and the layoff rate has declined.

Well when the business owner lays off everyone but himself...I guess you could call that *OVER*. When there is no one left to lay off and not go out of business..I guess that is a *victory*..... :S Lefties are so smart.

Something to think about

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

Indeed..this is worth thinking over.

(author unknown)

"A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. 'Very few people were true Nazis,' he said, 'but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.'
We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.
The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.
And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were 'peace loving'?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:
Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.
Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts--the fanatics who threaten our way of life".

Could somebody explain to me why the gov't is so afraid to label Dr. Hasan a terrorist? Seems like we don't use the phrase "war on terror" any more. Is it because anti-terrorism was a "Bush thing" and now we're trying to show how we've evolved beyond that way of thinking? I mean, c'mon, even the terrorists are lavishing praise upon Dr. Hasan and claiming him as one of their own. Maybe I'm simple-minded, but didn't we use 9/11 as a rallying point that drew the nation together and strengthened our resolve as a nation to strike back? Why wouldn't the Obama administration want to do the same thing to draw support to their cause in Afghanistan? Inquiring minds want to know!

Did he not bring *terror*...

Facts:

He was Muslim.

He brought terror.

He murdered innocence.

He purchased private weapons to do so.

Bummer for him though...he didn't die. Allah won't be pleased..and he won't get them virgins. cwy

Now the speaker of the *New order* (house) is holding a special vote to raise the national dept limit...so she can pay for(borrow) more money to pay off her cronies.......

O dear God...the end is upon us.... 8O

You're refering to the *Safe Sex-n-School Czar...right?

Just when you thought schools were safe for your kids. Can any of you libs out there honestly tell me that you'd like your kids reading some of the books on the recommended reading list sponsored by the group founded (and run from 1990-2008) by Obama's "safe schools czar"?
