Cocoon Nebula

Posted By Louis Busby

Still practicing, I hope I'm getting better. I tried imaging the Cocoon a few evenings ago at my observatory in N.VA. Total exposure time is 58 minutes. I used a Tak TOA150 on an EM400 and Sbig 11000. Manually guided - eight minute subs.

Fungus -- Arghhh!

Posted By Louis Busby

I was shutting down my observatory after a nights viewing. It was 25F, so as usual, I slew my scopes over to check for any fog or ice on the objectives before placing the covers on. I noticed a very small patch of fungal branching between the objective elements of my Tak FS78 guidescope.

What's the best way to deal with this before it gets outta hand? Send it in to TNR? Deal with it myself? Or what?

Thanks for any advice.

I don't like to brag....but.

It's taken me a long time to get to where I want to be in Astronomy. I'm pretty happy about getting there. In the pic is my Tak TOA 150 on a EM400 EQM. I mounted it on a PierTech II pier in my Pro Dome 10. Additional scopes on the setup include a TAK FS78, FS60, and TAK 70mm Finder.

I showed you mine, now show me yours.

Changing Profile and Avatar pics

Posted By Louis Busby

I've been trying to change my profile and avatar pics, but keep getting upload errors. I've even reduced the image sizes to less than 200 pixels. Still no luck. Actual file size is 41.7kb. IS that still too large?

Weather Stations

Posted By Louis Busby

I'm looking at getting a weather station to place near my observatory. Can anyone who owns one make a recommendation. I prefer a full spread of data including wind speed and direction, humidity, temp, precip, and pressure. I also prefer a solar powered wireless setup where I can have multiple workstations and/or consoles (one for the home and one for the obsevatory).

So far the one's I've looked at are the Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 and the Peet Bros. ULTIMETER® Weather Stations.

I appreciate any input. Cost is not a factor, so if there are higher end stations please make your recommendations.

Thanks

Support vs. Membership (Subscription)

Does support constitute membership to Astromart? and therefore subscription to the enhanced site? Or, is support independent of subscription services? I'm confused.

hiatus in rising temperatures has climate scientists puzzled

"The global temperature standstill shows that climate models are diverging from observations," says David Whitehouse of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.

"If we have not passed it already, we are on the threshold of global observations becoming incompatible with the consensus theory of climate change," he says.

Whitehouse argues that whatever has happened to make temperatures remain constant requires an explanation because the pause in temperature rise has occurred despite a sharp increase in global carbon emissions.
