Fast astrographs design references desired

Posted By Dave Erickson

Does anyone have a reference for fast astrograph designs? Faster than F/3 for a 16803 CCD at between 40” and 60” focal length… I am considering making a larger astrograph…

Great Orion Nebula area HAlpha

Posted By Dave Erickson

On a cold autmn night I thought I'd visit an old friend... Here is a wide field shot of the Great Orion Nebula area taken the other night with an 8" F/2.6 astrograph under dark skies at Sierra Chaparral Observatory. Seeing 1.5 arc seconds sky quality 21.8 mag/ arc sec. An halpha 13nm filter was used during (3) 12 min subframes for a total 36 min exposure, using a STIL 11000M sensor. The entire frame is displayed here.

Just a non linear screen stretch was used to preserve the subtle delicate nature of the nebula. I have additional data including short exposures I'll combine later for more depth and dynamic range. www.hbastro.com
