Future of visual astronomy?

Posted By David Black

Seems like a likely place to start so, what's the future of amatuer astronomy at the eyepiece?

Will electronic viewing replace eyepieces as light pollution creeps onward?

I wonder if, years from now, astronomers will be viewing through 'electronic' eyepieces that will gather light in small increments and project them onto a lcd screen. One eyepiece that does all.

Or, do you see visual astronomy, and its wonderful array of eyepieces, surviving the advance of technology?

It is not farfetched that someday visual astronomers will have one eyepiece that can vary magnification and fov to the user, and provide a view that brings the advances ccd photography has enjoyed.

Have I taken a left turn at Albuquerque with all this? What do you say?

"Made in America" Visit to AP Showing on March 13

Posted By David Black

Alan, thanks for the heads up on this.

A chance to peek behind the curtain and see the 'great wizard' wink

Regarding the AstroPhysics legend, I'm betting there are ALOT of folks busting to see this.

I'm guessing it will be far too cursory to satisfy, but its appointment viewing for me!

David

( Cheesy edit: the Host of 'Made in America' John Ratzenberger will be on 'Dancing with the Stars'. I'm getting a feeling the world is collapsing in upon itself 8O )

Astronomy - Oberserving/Hours/Quitting Time

Posted By David Black

I'm in south Florida, so I second Ivan's description of our summer conditions and viewing time.

As a purely visual guy, primetime for me is November to April, usually sunset to 1:00 am, one night a week, maybe more if conditions permit.

As Ivan said, the combination of wator vapor and light pollution is a blanket. 'Clear' for Florida in summertime is still pretty worthless. :S

Why do some sellers delete ads right after sale?

Posted By David Black

Some time back, I went through my profile and deleted everything over ~ year old. Feedback for each sale remains, correct? That can be checked and provides me enough of a track record.

I did this as housekeeping to clear up space on the servers, thought it was a favor to the admins who run the site. It all adds up, one sale at a time.

On second thought, and since I haven't come across a request from the hosts to do this, I'll leave it all up from now on.

As for sold items, I leave it up until the transaction is complete, for the reasons stated already.

(as an aside, I have had zero problems on Amart to date grin )

"Seeing in the Dark"

Enjoyed it. Couldn't help thinking how much it reminded me of a Ken Burns 'Civil War' episode. The music, history and diary approach. Well done. smile

I picked these up after losing an auction here for one. The owners contacted me privately and I couldn't resist. I guess I just won't eat for a couple of years. smile

These? Meaning you bought two 152's? Enjoy deciding which is your fav! Much envy herewink
