That is a beautiful image. The 10D seems to be a great camera judging the images you are contributing here!

k3ccd tools help

Posted By Gary Carter

Troy,
I have had problems with K3CCD not recognizing my ToUcam after running K3CCD without the camera attached to the USB port. I got the same message regarding not detecting a video source. I could never figure out what the K3 tools were doing (I assume it notes the absence of the camera in a file somewhere). The only solution I found that 'corrected' this condition was to re-install the K3CCD tools from scratch WITH THE CAMERA ATTACHED. I never execute K3CCD without it attached.

Getting a ToUcam - barlows questions

You will probably be happy with the 2.5x Powermate or the 3x Barlow in average seeing. A 4X Powermate is also within the image scale of your OTA, however, seeing would indeed need to be very good to exceptional at this magnigfication for good image results. I have an Ultima 11 and all three of the above mentioned amplifiers.

I use the Powermates most of the time in the optical train for imaging and the 3x Barlow with an illuminated eyepiece on my 80mm Lumicon Superfinder to find & center the planet I'm imaging.

As Yu points out, you could also gain additional magnification by lengthening the distance between the output of the amplifier and the CCD camera focal plane.

Jupiter taken 2/28/04

Unless my eyes deceive me, you've caught what was described in the latest Sky & Tel weekly news bulletin noted below:

A DISTURBANCE IN JUPITER'S CLOUDS

An unusual disturbance has appeared on Jupiter at the interface of the
South Equatorial Belt (SEB) and the Equatorial Zone (EZ). It's visible as
a very elongated bluish feature, highlighted in the center image above.
The feature's bluish hue is more pronounced when it's near Jupiter's limb
but is quite subtle when crossing the central meridian.

This disturbance was first detected on February 26, 2004, by European
amateurs. On the 29th the new feature was some 40 degrees long (in
longitude) and was transiting Jupiter's central meridian about 2.5 hours
before the Great Red Spot (GRS)....

name that moon...(Jupiter)

Assuming you took this image the night of March 2, 2004 (05:10 on March 3rd, Universal Time) then the names from left to right are Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Io.

You could probably remove the focal reducer and push F30!
