Glued secondary ?

Posted By Gary Carter

I doubt that the fact the secondary is glued is the source of your astigmatism. Have you performed a critical alignment of the primary and secondary? Is the eyepiece a known good performer? If so I'd guess it is the primary that is the culprit. You might consider having it tested.

plumbing the rear cell on a C11 ?

Posted By Gary Carter

John,

I think this order should work: (I verified I could do it with my C11 using a JMI focuser)

1) WO Focuser,
2) 6.3 focal reducer (requires 2" male to SCT thread adapter),
3) 2" visual back,
4) diagonal.

You will have limited view to the zenith with this arrangement if you are still fork mounted.

Note: My JMI Focuser includes a large SCT thread adapter and thus is attached directly to the C11 rear cell.

Is the C8 too heavy for a Vixen GP?

Posted By Gary Carter

Celestron used to sell the SPC-8 back in the mid to late '80s which consisted of a C8 on a Super Polaris mount - a close cousin to the Great Polaris. You will find an example in http://www.telescopebluebook.com/

As you have calculated the C8 is at upper limit of the mount's weight capacity but it will serve you well for a visual setup.

C14 Autopsy report

A vice is exactly what came to my mind as I looked at the pattern depicted in the photos and pondered the 180 degree description. But why clamp the secondary in a vice? Weird!

Amazing spacecraft.

Updated May 24, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. PDT

Engineers successfully reset a computer onboard Voyager 2 that caused an unexpected data pattern shift, and the spacecraft resumed sending properly formatted science data back to Earth on Sunday, May 23. Mission managers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., had been operating the spacecraft in engineering mode since May 6. They took this action as they traced the source of the pattern shift to the flip of a single bit in the flight data system computer that packages data to transmit back to Earth. In the next week, engineers will be checking the science data with Voyager team scientists to make sure instruments onboard the spacecraft are processing data correctly.
